 Teachers describe Shayla as “hard working, dedicated, self confident, and outgoing with a positive attitude and an enthusiasm for learning.” Shayla is also well known as an exceptional athlete at East Side College Prep playing volleyball, basketball, and running (and jumping) track. As if maintaining good grades while being a competitive three sport athlete wasn’t enough, Shayla participated in “SMASH” (a Science and Math Honors Academy at UC Berkeley) for the three past summers and she was also a member of the National Society of Black Engineers where she traveled to compete in national tournaments. Shayla will be attending Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in the fall. |
