“This program will help motivate more underrepresented minority students to attend college. With the mentoring, summer internships and financial support, students will realize they have a lot of support to help them be successful in college and beyond.”

OVERVIEW

Scholarship Funding: The program provides four-year college scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Teams are established, headed by members of our advisory committee, to help raise these monies. Donors commit to a four-year sponsorship and may also, if they choose, act as mentors for students. In addition, donors can assist students in obtaining an annual summer internship program.

Target Schools: Scholarships are given to students at Woodside High School, Menlo-Atherton High School, East Palo Alto Academy High School and Eastside College Preperatory School.

Goals: Our long-term goal is to have 20-25 students in the program at any one time. Keeping the program small ensures a close relationship with the students throughout their college career.

Inspiration: THE PENINSULA COLLEGE FUND is based on three very successful programs: The South Central Gifted Scholar Fund of Los Angeles, the Meritus College Fund of San Francisco and the East Bay College Fund. In similar fashion, we believe that there is an identified critical need among Mid-peninsula students for college funding, which this program addresses.
